Jami Rodman, ex-prostitute and madam
Jami Rodman grew up religious in small-town Oregon. She couldn't cut her hair. No TV. No music. Certainly no sex images. But whenever she saw a friend's Playboy, or stumbled onto porn, it stirred her. So in her early 20s, she moved to Las Vegas, cocktailed, stripped, escorted, and madamed. After a decade, she left sex work for humanitarian work. She sat with me in a Paris hotel hall, and I asked how prostitutes have sex with people they aren't attracted to, how many thousands of prostitutes work in Las Vegas, and she advocated for many young prostitutes who are forced into sex work, giving us a full picture of the pros and cons of prostitution in America.
